JMS Development Partners

In 1997, John Baer founded JMS Development Partners (JMS) for the purpose of developing smaller format  housing, retail , and commercial projects at strategic “infill” locations in the San Francisco Peninsula market area. Since 1997, JMS has been involved with more than 50 development projects.

Presently, JMS Development has focused its efforts in three Mid Peninsula Communities including San Carlos, Redwood City and San Mateo.  JMS believes that these three Mid Peninsula Communities provide the opportunity for predictable growth in asset value because of their immediate proximity to mass transit and their mid-point location between the major employment centers of San Francisco and San Jose.

Matteson Real Estate Equities

Between 2002 and 2011, Mr. Baer managed multifamily real estate development for Matteson Real Estate Equities; a privately held real estate acquisition, development and management firm located in the Bay Area.

During his 9-year tenure with Matteson, Mr. Baer was responsible for the  entire sequence of development activities including strategic planning, market identification, site acquisition, project entitlement, product design, economic analysis, contractor selection, and construction management.

At its peak in early 2009, Matteson’s multifamily development pipeline consisted of 14 projects, totaling 1200 units in 7 core Bay Area cities. In building this pipeline, Matteson became recognized as a highly-qualified infill multifamily development firm with a defined strategy based on product type, project size, site location and entitlement complexity.
